Kentucky Association for Pupil Transportation Hall of Fame Award Goes to Lifelong Mechanic PDF Print E-mail

Glen Powell, the retired service manager for the Henderson County Schools Transportation Department, was recognized for a distinguished career during the recent 2010 KAPT Fall Seminar.

A former state school bus specification committee member, Powell was recognized with the Lifetime Hall of Fame Award for his service over his 33-year career in pupil transportation. He started in the industry at age 18. Powell was also a state instructor for statewide mechanic training

Overall the school district took home three of the eight awards given by KAPT. Mark Payne was named Lead Mechanic of the Year, and 30-year veteran Virginia Lancaster won the Driver Trainer of the Year award. Brenda Sorrell of Montgomery County was named Driver of the Year and Calvin Crawford won the Director of the Year Award. Nannette Johnston of Hardin County was named Superintendent of the Year.

Meanwhile, Henderson County Schools Transportation Director Keegan O’Daniel was elected vice president of KAPT. Nate Huggins of Elizabethtown Independent School District was elected association president.
