Building a Quality Transportation Team: Recruitment, Retention, Career Planning for Staff
This class will examine how to recruit the best fit for the job, how to keep the individuals working for you happy and with a better attitude, and how to prepare them and your department for advancement and long term careers. This is a joint Maintenance and Operations Management session.

Emissions: Where We Are, Where We Should Be and Where We Are Going
This panel consisting of the executive director of the Alternative Fuels Vehicle Institute and school bus operators will discuss where school buses stand in the new emissions laws and will help guide transportation officials in the direction they should be looking to clean their equipment and how to look into the future and move forward.

The How To's for Hosting Your Own Americas Best School Bus Technician and Inspector Qualifier
This session will expound on the benefits of participating in the Americas Best School Bus Technician and Inspector Competition. You will receive in depth detail about the America's Best Competition and Training event along with information on how to plan and host your own qualifying competition. There will be information on how to obtain sponsors for your event and some quick demonstrations on how easy it is to set up event stations. This presentation will cover competitions for both the School Bus Technicians and School Bus Inspectors.

National School Bus Standards for Safety Inspections
This session will review the minimum school bus inspection standards as adopted at the 2010 National Conference for School Transportation. The NCST meets every five years to establish the minimum standards for school bus construction and operations. The 2010 conference expanded the number of items included in the national School Transportation Standards and Specifications.

Pattern Recognition: Finding Gems in the Mountains of Operational Data
This class will examine how to glean information from data that is available from a computerized maintenance program. We will discuss how to set up a system to track the major expense factors in the shop so improvements can be made in mechanic and driver training, in the maintenance program, and in the purchasing of future buses. We will discuss how other nuggets of information can make your operations more efficient.

Super Bus: Total Emissions Solution from Engine to Tailpipe
A panel discussion will center on total school bus emissions from tailpipe to engine and everything between, plus the relationship with the growing electrical complexity of vehicles. The panel will include transportation directors, fleet managers and vendors that represent bus heaters, emissions retrofits and engines. Representatives from representatives from Blue Bird, Collins, Cummins, Espar Heaters, IC Bus and Thomas Built Buses will be on hand to answer attendee questions.

The Importance of Oil Analysis
This session will expound on the benefits of utilizing vehicle fluid analysis as a means of stretching those shrinking budget dollars. We will discuss how fluid analysis can be used for determining preventive maintenance intervals and for identifying failures before they become catastrophic.

National School Bus Specifications
The 15th National Congress on School Transportation will convene May 15 through 20th, 2010 at University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. In this workshop we will review the changes, and the rationale behind them, to the Specifications section in the National School Transportation Specifications and Procedures Manual. There will be opportunity for questions throughout the workshop.
