Presented by: Peter Lawrence Proactive or Reactive Dispatching: How to Maximize Each Radio dispatch: the hub of daily operations internally and externally. Customer service, the bus left my student, accidents, incidents, student call in, the lost driver, angry parents, schools calling the bus is late, the bus left early! "Clear the lines this is an emergency!!!" And it is all in a day! This session will provide information to help you and your dispatchers deal with it all proactively and reactively in a positive, effective way. Presented by: Pauline Gervais Driver Risk Reduction; It's All About Attitude! In order to made inroads towards reductions in incident frequency and encourage more responsible driver actions, ongoing training and refresher training programs MUST incorporate higher order skills including risk perception, advanced visual search and observational skills as well as attitudinal components that encourage risk reduction, and an understanding of the external and internal influences on risk tolerance. This workshop will prepare you to plan implement training that incorporates these advanced elements. Presented by: Spencer McDonald How Well Are You Protecting Your Buses? Increased incidents involving bus yard vandalism, stolen buses and theft of bus parts over the past few years have raised awareness on how important it is to protect these valuable assets. This session will detail how to conduct a vulnerability assessment utilizing local first responders and highlight how to implement basic security strategies that may prevent your bus operation from becoming another statistic. Session attendees will receive a school transportation site assessment template. Presented by: Steve Harris Lessons From the Best Driver Training Programs A discussion with Driver Trainers Marisa Weisinger of Innovative Transportation Solutions in Houston and Margo Medeiros of Washoe County School District in Reno on developing and improving existing school bus training programs with a variety of teaching techniques that will inform and entertain your target audience, but still allow you to accomplish your intended objective Presented by: Marisa Weisinger Margo Medeiros No Behind Left on the School Bus No child left behind has a new meaning in transportation. It is what we focus on everyday or should! As transporters we have an obligation to do our part to ensure no behind is left behind! How often does it happen, are you aware, employee consequences, learn new techniques to prevent this from occurring in your district, now is the time! Presented by: Pauline Gervais Margo Medeiros Kathleen Furneaux Using Video Cameras to Reduce Illegal Passing of Stopped School Buses North Carolina General Assembly passed the Nicolas Atkins School Bus Safety Act in 2009. It permits the use of automated camera and video recording systems to detect and prosecute violations of illegal passing of stopped school buses. The Safety Act generated great interest among state and local school districts with numerous camera installations and vendors offering pilot units. Similar activities also sprung up around the county with abundant media coverage. This session will share what we have learned in North Carolina addressing by technology, enforcement, judicial and education components.
