First Observer Training Returns to the EXPO

TSA's First Observer training will return to the final day of the STN EXPO this year, Wednesday, July 28 from noon to 3 p.m.

First Observer is a Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Administration funded national security program where transportation professionals observe, assess and report activities that may pose a security risk. The “First Observer’ Program is operated by “Team HMS”.

Before 9-11, there were pieces of the security puzzle that we lost track of and thus were not available for government officials to use in creating as full a picture as possible of what the 9-11 terrorists were doing.  Today, the First Observer program provides a means for the reporting of suspicious activities to a national call center where this potentially life-saving information is routed to an Information Sharing and Analysis Center. There, industry and government analysts piece together a more complete image than ever before of seemingly independent activities that may in fact be related and may indicate a terrorist operation in the works.

This type of training has identified several potential terrorist and criminal acts in the last few years and as a result, the appropriate authorities have been able to take timely action to protect Americans.
