LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Bosch has introduced the new Original Equipment design fine wire Double Platinum spark plug, which complements its OE fine wire Iridium plug launched in 2011 and the OE fine wire Platinum plug launched in March, 2012, rounding out the Bosch OE fine wire family of spark plugs. As with Bosch’s other OE fine wire plugs, the Bosch Double Platinum plug line is based on the latest original equipment materials and manufacturing technology, and delivers extended performance life and durability.
“The Bosch OE Fine Wire Double Platinum plug delivers improved ignitability, power, acceleration and throttle response by employing fine wire laser welded center electrode technology, and is designed to last three times longer than a standard copper core plug,” said Mark Wilkinson, Group Product Manager, Spark Plugs for Bosch.
The new Bosch Double Platinum and OE Fine Wire spark plug family will be on display at the Bosch exhibit (Booth #5037) at AAPEX, in the Sands Exposition Center in Las Vegas, Oct. 30 to Nov. 1.
The Double Platinum spark plug offers special design features that meet or exceed OE specifications for double platinum plugs:
“Just as with our fine wire Iridium and Platinum lines, Bosch has gone to great lengths to ensure that the new Double Platinum plugs meet or exceed manufacturer requirements of the latest fuel delivery and high energy ignition systems, including Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI), turbo and supercharging, and coil on plug (COP) ignition systems,” Wilkinson said. “These engine technologies make materials and specifications like advanced ceramic technology, correct spark projection, and the correct gap more critical than ever.”
“Bosch uses high strength ceramics to protect against cracking and dielectric punch through – when the spark fires through the side of the insulator instead of at the center electrode — and Bosch Double Platinum plugs maintain correct spark position across the entire line, better than competitors’ full line double platinum programs. This ensures a reliable spark, improved throttle response and acceleration, and protection against full or partial misfires.”
The complete line of New Bosch OE fine wire Double Platinum plugs offers 25 SKUs covering over 70 percent of the North American vehicles in operation (VIO), including over 86 percent of VIO that were originally equipped with double platinum plugs.
OE Fine Wire Plug Family Utilizes ‘Exact Spark Projection’
“Powerful new engines, especially those utilizing Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) and turbochargers, require OE specified exact ‘spark projection’ – the actual location of the spark in the combustion chamber -- and special materials, all to create the best spark in the latest generation of engines. All three spark plugs in the Bosch OE fine wire family – Bosch OE Fire Wire Iridium, OE Fine Wire Double Platinum, and OE Fine Wire Platinum, are designed to maintain correct spark projection for each application,” said Wilkinson. And Bosch Iridium is the only full line iridium spark plug in the market with iridium on both the center and ground electrodes.
”All three plugs are pre-gapped to ensure the correct gap setting, unlike many other plugs that require gapping, which increases the risk of damaging the center electrode tip and setting the gap incorrectly. And, all Bosch OE Fine Wire plugs are backed by both a customer satisfaction guarantee as well as the industry’s only Professional Technician Warranty, which covers labor/repair costs for a period of one (1) year from the date of installation when installed by a certified repair shop.”
