Daimler Trucks North America announced that it is recalling 39 Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 school buses because of a potential problem with putting the vehicles into "park."
The buses, manufactured from April 16 last year through May 10 of this year, are equipped with Eaton hybrid transmissions. Apparently, the reverse idler shaft may contact the park feature, which could result in the two components binding and preventing the park feature from engaging. This could cause the vehicle to start rolling even when the operator thinks the buses is parked.
The NHTSA recall campaign ID is 10V246000. Daimler Trucks said it would begin notifying owners and that the fix would be performed free of charge by Eaton Corporation. The recall was expected to being around Aug. 27 of this year.
