An undisclosed number of multifunction school activity buses are being targeted by Type A manufacturer Trans Tech Bus because the vehicles fail to meet FMVSS 221 that mandates school bus body joint strength.
The NHTSA recall seeks to fix structural adhesive on certain interior and exterior roof body panels joints. The roof panels and joints many not absorb the impact of a crash and could open up, which could increase the risk of death or serious injury to student passengers.
Trans Tech said it will provide specific bus models by model year and date of production once the company has determined exactly which buses are affected. Owners are recommended to contact NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline, (888) 327-4236, (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit safercar.gov for more information.
