General Manager of Transportation
The School District of Hillsborough County (SDHC) maintains the public educational system for Hillsborough County and is governed by the School Board of Hillsborough County. The SDHC Board is comprised of seven elected members and one superintendent, chosen by the Board. The District is the third largest in the state of Florida and the eighth largest in the United States. The School Board oversees 25,776 permanent personnel, more than 200,000 students and approximately 266 schools. The SDHC’s operating budget is $1.707 Billion with a majority of it spent on School Level Services.
The SDHC is seeking a motivated and dynamic professional to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Transportation Department to ensure the District is in compliance with program mandates and standards to include Family Community Partnerships, Early Childhood Development and Program Design and Management. The General Manager of Transportation is responsible for directing and controlling all aspects of providing safe transportation services, including, but not limited to, all bus fleet management and maintenance, routing and scheduling of students, the daily operation of buses and personnel management. The ideal candidate will have exceptional administrative, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills and proven ability to provide strong leadership and direction for the Transportation Department.
A Bachelor’s degree in educational leadership, human services or a related education or social sciences field is required; a Master’s degree preferred. At least ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in transportation preferred, with five (5) years of related management or supervisory experience is required. Experience in public school administration, public school district administration, or other large diverse organizations is required. The salary range is $98,083 - $115,894; starting salary within the range will be dependent upon qualifications.
