NASDPTS Seeks More State Adoption of School Bus Safety License Plates

The National Association for State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS) is promoting a 50-state initiative to introduce specialty license plates aimed at educating the motoring public on school bus safety, similar to programs developed first in Ohio and most recently in Iowa.

National School Bus Loading, Unloading Fatalities Double

Eight students were killed nationwide in the school bus loading and unloading zone, two by their own buses and six by passing vehicles, during the 2016-2017 school year. Four fatalities were recorded for each of the previous two school years.

School Bus Drivers, "What’s Important Now?"

There is a facility in central Idaho that dismantles nuclear warheads. The warheads are transported in average looking semis escorted by ordinary looking vehicles that are manned by specially trained and heavily armed tactical officers. The semi transporting the warhead is heavily armored and will self-protect even if the security team is taken out. Sadly, school buses do not have the luxury of security escorts.
