New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other officials utilized the school bus to transport them to an outdoor press conference on increased school security held at Plainview Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School on Long Island.
Strategically placed in the background of the event was a shiny yellow school bus provided by Logan Bus Co. Inc. & Affiliates, the largest privately-owned school transportation company in the state.
Corey J. Muirhead, director of contracts and business development at Logan Bus, said in a Linkedin posting that the company transported Gov. Andrew Cuomo, along with Lt. Gov Kathy Hochul, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, and Town of Hempstead Supervisor Laura Gillen to a press conference on Monday at the school.
The outdoor event was part of the Governor’s new “Statewide Bus Tour of Schools in Solidarity of Students, Teachers, and School Administrators in Support of Common Sense Gun Reform.” Gov. Cuomo kicked off a statewide campaign to pass the Red Flag Gun Protection Bill (Extreme Risk Protection Order Bill), which he proposed last week.
According to the governor’s office, the legislation “builds on New York’s strongest in the nation gun laws and prior legislative efforts,. If passed, it would make New York the first state in the U.S. to empower its teachers and school administrators to prevent school shootings by pursuing court intervention.”
Tomorrow Cuomo will visit two more schools located in White Plains and Ellenville, the governor’s office indicated.
