Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s statewide school bus tour continued with stops scheduled in White Plains and Ellenville, New York, at White Plains High School and Ellenville High School.

Also scheduled on Tuesday was stop at the bus company, Logan Bus Co. Inc. & Affiliates, the largest privately-owned school transportation company in the state, that is transporting Gov. Cuomo and Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul.

A YouTube clip of Monday’s press conference is posted online. The governor’s statewide campaign is an effort to pass the Red Flag Gun Protection Bill, also known as the Extreme Risk Protection Order Bill, which he proposed last week.

The bill would “prevent individuals determined by a court to have the potential to cause themselves or others serious harm from purchasing, possessing, or attempting to purchase or possess any type of firearm, including hand guns, rifles, or shotguns.”

The legislation builds on New York’s strongest in the nation gun laws and prior legislative efforts, the Governor’s office stressed. If passed, the legislation would make New York the first state in the U.S. to empower its teachers and school administrators to prevent school shootings by pursuing court intervention.

Joining him on the Guardian Bus, the name of Logan’s Long Island bus company, at Plainview-Old Bethpage High school were Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, and other local elected officials. Following the Long Island press conference, Gov. Cuomo traveled on the Guardian School Bus up to the Bronx for his second press conference, accompanied by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz and New York City public advocate Letitia James.

On Tuesday, traveling by Logan Bus, Gov. Cuomo was accompanied by Lt. Gov. Hochul, White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach, and Westchester County Executive George Latimer, to their White Plains High School press conference.

Corey Muirhead, director at Logan Bus, reported that, “Mayor Roach of White Plains told me this is the nicest school bus he has ever seen. Day in and day out, we try to make sure we put the nicest and safest vehicles on the road.”
