Blue Bird Issues Small Recall to Fix Aftermarket Brake Treadle Valve

Blue Bird Corporation announced it is recalling a half-dozen of its All American transit-style, Type-D school buses because an aftermarket brake treadle valve with a plunger that may fracture, which could reduce braking and lead to a loss of vehicle control.

The 13 All American buses affected by the NHTSA recall campaign are all model year 2013 vehicles manufactured from Dec. 9, 2011 through March 9 of this year. Blue Bird said the fracture may occur during brake application, which could reduce the brake pedal angel and travel. This, in turn, could limit the bus driver’s ability to apply full pressure to the brakes. The company added that the brake plunger could also become lodged and not allow the release of the service brakes.

These buses were sold by dealer A-Z Bus Sales, which Blue Bird said will replace the brake treadle valves free of charge.
