Cincinnati Public Schools Adds New Buses to Fleet for New School Year

This month, students who attend Cincinnati Public Schools are being transported on 99 new buses provided by contractor First Student.

The Thomas Built Buses C2 Saf-T-Liners conventionals not only reduce emissions by nearly eliminating all nitrogen oxides from the tailpipe but also are equipped with GPS tracking systems, the Child Check-Mate electronic reminder system to prompt drivers to scan the bus for sleeping children at the conclusion of routes and crossing gates at the front of the bus.

The buses are also equipped with larger windows and deeper seats to provide students with a more enjoyable ride. Meanwhile, drivers have greater visibility through an elarged front window.

“First Student’s core value of safety is evident through the regular investments we make in our fleet,” said Scott Turney, First Student area general manager. “The new buses meet our high standards of safety, while being environmentally and technologically advanced.”

A benefit to school districts of outsourcing school bus services, according to contractors like First Student, is that vehicle replacement cylces can be acclerated in an era of increased budget cuts.
