Collins Bus Launches New Type A on Ford Transit Chassis

Collins Bus unveiled its new Type A body on the Ford Transit chassis at the NAPT Summit Monday evening. It comes in both dual rear wheel and single rear configurations and seats up to 25 passengers.

Adding to a reduction in blind spots, the Ford Transit offers the optional Brigadier rearview and 360-degree camera system that is mounted near the windshield. There are two views, one of the rear of the vehicle that bus drivers can use if backing as well as to monitor traffic and pedestrians, and the other an overview of the entire bus perimeter to ensure students are clear of the bus before pulling into or out of a bus stop.

The narrow-body bus is ideal for navigating crowded urban areas especially the tight streets found in Northeast cities, said Matt Scheuler, president of Collins Bus.

The also bus features a one-piece tubular roof bow design, a wall flush mounted air conditioner by ACT and an exclusive external storage compartment. The Transit also comes with a five-year body warranty and unlimited lifetime paint warranty.

“We have a heritage of innovation and an incredible commitment to the school bus industry,” said Kent Tyler.
