Colorado School Bus Drivers Win State Roadeo Competition, Qualify for Nationals

Three school bus drivers from Academy 20 School District in Colorado Springs placed in the Colorado State Roadeo held last month. In doing so, the winners of the transit and conventional divisions qualified for this past weekend’s International School Bus Driver Safety Competition held in Milwaukee in conjunction with the National School Transportation Association Annual Convention.

Charlotte Horne of Academy 20 won the transit division and came in ninth place in the international competition on July 14. Horne’s co-worker Robert Hudson finished second in the Colorado event, while Kathy Windt of Adams 12 Five Star Schools finished third.

Meanwhile, Les Lilly of Douglas County School District RE-1 won the conventional bus division and finished 27th at the international competition in Milwaukee. Tim Shleiker of Cherry Creek Schools finished in second place in Colorado, followed by Holly Comer, also from Academy 20.

The Colorado special needs division was won by the team of Deanna Dauten and Leatha Hansz from Falcon No. 49 in Peyton. Bernadette Liley and Tammy Ury of Jefferson County Schools came in second, and Cindy Ritz and Ej Carr from Cherry Creek Public Schools finished in third place.
