Cummins acquired the assets mobile battery pack designer Brammo, Inc. as it moves forward in development of electric powertrains.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Cummins announced the formation of its electrification business earlier this year as it seeks to differentiate itself from the competition, said Cummins CEO and Chairman Tom Linebarger. In August, the company unveiled its fully electric Urban Hauler Tractor demonstration vehicle.
“To be a leading provider of electrified power systems just as we are with diesel and natural gas driven powertrains, we must own key elements and subsystems of the electrification network,” he added in a statement on Oct. 16. “As always, when markets are ready, Cummins will bring our customers the right power solution at the right time to power their success.”
Julie Furber leads the Cummins electrification business and will also oversee the Brammo operations, the company added, which will continue to be based in Talent, Oregon.
Craig Bramscher, chairman and CEO of Brammo, said the acquisition aims to “uniquely position us to enhance Cummins’ efforts to be a leader in the electrification space,” adding that, “We see this as a very exciting opportunity to continue changing the way the world moves and stores power.”
