Expanded Bendix Brake Facility to Meet Increased Demand

Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake’s new expanded wheel-end production facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky, is in the process of winning an award from the local chamber of commerce.

The $8.79 million investment was opened at the end of 2014 and has created 90 new full-time jobs, the company said. The expansion took the facility to 302,000 square feet from the original 187,000 square feet. Employees also increased to 420 from the previous 133.

Increased production capacity for both brands was accomplished through the addition of four new machining centers and a new assembly line.

The expansion also meets increased demand for automatic brake adjuster, spring brakes and friction, added Bendix in a statement.

BFSB is a joint venture between Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems and Dana Commercial Vehicle Products. The Bowling Green facility first opened in 2007. The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce recognized Bendix and 15 other local companies with a Business Expansion Award during a ceremony Oct. 20.

“As we continue to invest in our business and expand our presence in Bowling Green, it’s a great honor to be recognized for our efforts,” said Fred Stevens, Bowling Green plant manager. “Our ongoing investments in the Bowling Green manufacturing operation—where our skilled workforce is the backbone—strengthen our commitment to highway safety, while reinforcing BSFB’s commitment to the industry and our community.”

BSFB also earned the Chamber of Commerce Business Expansion Award in 2011 for adding 221 full-time positions at its manufacturing operation.
