First Student Partners with Technology Companies to Improve Maintenance Labor Times

First Student says its North American operations are realizing key results from information technology used in maintenance shops.

The school bus contractor is partnering with MOTOR Information Systems, and aftermarket vehicle information solutions provider, and Cetaris, a developer and supporter of Enterprise Asset Management software solutions focused on maintenance processes, to provide labor information for service and repair procedures. First Student mechanical labor times from hundreds of operations are being integrated into Cetaris’ Fleet Assistant maintenance system in more than 600 difference service locations in the United States and Canada.

“We enjoyed and appreciated working with First Student and MOTOR on this innovative enhancement to First Student’s implementation of Fleet Assistant,” said Ric Bedard, president of Cetaris. “Integrating MOTOR data into Fleet Assistant allows First Student to drive continuous improvement within their maintenance organization by comparing their own fleet maintenance performance to industry best practices.”

The result for First Student are increased efficiencies, said a company representative.

“The MOTOR data is instrumental in establishing a base line from which First Student generates business specific standard jobs,” added Bill Olsen, director of maintenance planning for FirstGroup America, the operating company for First Student.
