School bus contractor Durham School Services received an Outstanding Organization Award from Special Olympics Illinois at the Summer Games Reception for contributions that improve the experiences of local athletes.
National Express Corporation (NEC), parent company of Durham and Petermann Bus in the U.S. and Stock Transportation in Canada, has made Special Olympics its number-one charitable partner dating back to 1996.
“At National Express, we constantly strive to be active in the communities that we serve,” said David A. Duke, CEO of NEC. “We proudly support Special Olympics in more than 15 states, and we are especially active right here in Illinois where our field operations and corporate teams frequently join together to support Special Olympics year round. Whether it’s jumping into icy waters for the Polar Plunge or supporting the Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby in the summer, our team has always been excited by the camaraderie fostered through our partnership with Special Olympics.”
In addition to its fundraising efforts, Durham provides free shuttle transportation for the athletes and those particpating in the Special Olympics Plane Pull fundraiser as well as two local Polar Plunge events. Employees also volunteer by handing out awards and assisting with the operations of the Games.
“We are grateful to be affiliated with such committed partner whose employees generously donate their time to our athletes and organization,” said Dave Breen, president and CEO of Special Olympics Illinois. “Durham helps make our organization successful, and for that we are thankful.”
