SafeGuard Sets New STAR Service Life Policy for Product’s 10th Anniversary

This week SafeGuard, a brand of IMMI, announced during the recent NAPT Trade Show in Grand Rapids, Mich., it changed its service life policy for its STAR restraints effective immediately. Now, any STAR manufactured from November 2012 or later will have an option for service life to begin from the date of invoice.

Previously, the service life of a STAR was six years from the date of manufacturer. Company officials said the change comes in recognition of the introduction of STAR 10 years ago at the NAPT Annual Summit.

The STAR service life will be defined as follows:

  • Six years from the date of purchase invoice with completed invoice label affixed to the STAR.
  • Or six years from date of manufacture without completed invoice label affixed to the STAR.

The service life is based on the normal wear and tear an average add-on child seat can expect to see before it is considered unacceptable for safe use. The STAR, like other add-on child seats, must be frequently inspected and replaced if any of the key safety components are found defective.

Company officials said STAR will now have a label affixed to its side. Customers are responsible for writing the name of the distributor, invoice number and the invoice date on this label. If users choose not to enter this information, the STAR service life reverts to six years from the date of manufacture.

Those who have a STAR manufactured in November 2012 or later but do not have a label attached, can order labels from the company’s website. Those who request labels must provide the required information, including the number of labels needed, and a copy of the invoice confirming purchase before receiving labels in the mail.
