Seven Student Transporters Latest to Obtain NAPT Special Needs Transportation Endorsement

Seven student transporters from four states recently completed coursework for their Special Needs Training (SNT) Endorsement through the National Association for Pupil Transportation.

The most recent recipients are:

  • Susan Shutrump, OT/PT dupervisor with the Trumbull County (Ohio) ESC and a tenured faculty member of the TSD Conference (Editor’s note — STN Media Group, owner and publisher of School Transportation News, owns and produces the conference, which is scheduled for March 8-13, 2013)
  • Kris Allen, the supervisor of transportation for Wasatch County School District in Lehi, Utah
  • Josy Campbell, transportation special needs coordinator with Widefield School District #3 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
  • Su Carlson, special needs area supervisor with Loudoun County Schools in  Leesburg, Va.
  • Jacqueline R. Mitchell, staff trainer with Adams 12 Five Star Schools in Thornton, Colo.
  • Heather B. Handschin, CSPT, a bookkeeper/secretary with Spotsylvania (Va.) County Schools
  • Ashley Fussell, transportation area supervisor with Virginia Beach (Va.) City Public Schools.

THere are now 39 student transporters across North America who have completed the training program, which provides numerous opportunities for transportation personnel serving students with disabilities to access educational opportunities at both local and national conferences and to gain national recognition for their efforts.

The core curriculum consists of six special needs courses in a variety of different settings, including a school bus roadeo and a trade show of school transportation products and services. The core curriculum is supplemented by two courses of elective instruction from the NAPT Professional Development Series (PDS) Program. The syllabus for the core curriculum has been specifically designed to increase an individual’s specific knowledge about transporting students with disabilities.
