Thomas Built Buses Recall to Fix Engine Cooling Short Circuit

Thomas Built Buses announced that Detroit Diesel will repair engine intake air grid heaters that may short circuit and fail in certain FCCC B2 106 CH and Saf-T-Liner C2 school buses.

More than 700 model-year 2010 and 2011 buses that were manufactured last year between Feb. 16 and July 7 are thought to be affected. The buses are equipped with MBE900 diesel engines certified to meet EPA 2004 and 2007 emissions requirements.

The NHTSA recall is associated with a previous recall, 10V-340. The latest recall states that the short circuiting and failure of the intake air grid heaters are due to excessive internal temperatures, which could result in a vehicle fire.

Owners and dealers will be notified of the fix, which will be performed free of charge at authorized Detroit Diesel repair facilities beginning on or around July 29.
