Zonar Offers Driver Monitoring, Training App on Tablet

Zonar Systems is bringing a real-time driver feedback and monitoring app to its 2020 mobile tablet, which was commercially released last month.

Developed by telematics provider GreenRoad, the new app monitors aggressive driving with in-cab alerts while also scoring drivers in five safety categories, providing online self-assessment tools and motivating drivers to step up safety with incentive programs.

“We are proud to partner with Zonar. The collaboration is an additional vote of confidence in our leading driver behavior technology and the impact it has on fleet safety,” said Zeev Braude, CEO at GreenRoad.

Zonar noted that its 2020 Android tablet is the first “transportation-centric telematics platform” to offer the GreenRoad app. Also available on the 2020 tablet are third-party mobile apps such as Drivewyze and ALK CoPilot navigation.

A Zonar spokesman said the 2020 tablet became fully functional recently after the addition of the ZLogs Hours-of-Service app to help fleets meet the requirements of new FMCSA rules. While mainly large trucking fleets are utilizing the 2020 tablet to manage operations, school districts could utilize the tablet for the pre-installed Electronic Vehicle Inspection Report (EVIR) and two-way communication.

The 2020 tablet is an open yet secure platform, allowing users to add third-party and custom apps that are specific to their operation.

Meanwhile, Zonar also announced that it now has more than 300,000 fleet telematics units in place in fleets. Mike McQuade, a Zonar co-founder and its new chief visionary officer, attributed increased company growth somewhat to their partnership with Daimler Trucks North America, the parent company of Thomas Built Buses.

In 2011, DTNA introduced Detroit Connect and the Virtual Technician service, a factory-installed telematics solution with remote diagnosis capability. Zonar said Virtual Technician captures vehicle operating data and alerts the fleet in real-time on the severity and recommended course of action when a fault occurs.

Expanding on this platform, Zonar recently released the Detroit Connect On-Board Tablet, an advanced Android based mobile tablet for driver productivity. In August, DTNA celebrated 100,000 trucks with Virtual Technician installed.

This past spring, Zonar also partnered with Thomas Built Buses to begin factory installs of telematics solutions for the Saf-T-Liner C2 school bus.
