School Board Abandons Plan to Change Bus Routes

The Reading Eagle reported that after hearing opposition from parents on a plan to put 4th and 5th graders on school buses with high school students, the Brandywine Heights School Board in Pennsylvania removed the proposal from consideration without taking a formal vote.

“The plan was intended to get intermediate, middle and high school students on the same busing schedules, which would then allow everyone here (at the middle/intermediate school) to attend school at the same time,” said Brian R. Pawling, the district’s new business manager.

One parent, whose daughter will go into 4th grade in the fall, said that the plan would extend the school day for young children by a whole hour.

As the board heard parents speak against the proposal, members began to wonder about possible problems, one voicing growing concerns of bullying and inappropriate language.
