School Buses Get Checked as Bus Safety Week Nears

Reporting out of Ohio, WTOV 9 covered the surprise inspection at the school bus garage at Indian Creek, a state motor vehicle inspector checking things like brakes, lights and reflectors.

Each year, annual inspections are done from January to June with spot inspections in between. This one in advance of School Bus Safety Week, where the Ohio State Highway Patrol will team up with school leaders to make sure the buses, and the students who ride them, keep safety in mind.

“We have some skits scheduled in our elementary schools, try to jazz it up a little bit more for the little guys,” said Indian Creek Assistant Superintendent John Belt. “One of our drivers is a local musician, so he’ll be doing some sing songs with them, and during safety week, we work closely with law enforcement. They will trail our buses in squad cars. We’ll have state troopers riding on the buses interacting with the children.”

Events at school will run through Bus Safety Week, Oct. 17-21.
