Driver Looks to Employ Innovative Student Management Program on School Bus

In 32 years of driving, Charlie Warr has seen it all when it comes to students misbehaving on the school bus. So she’s trying to do something about it.

Warr, a driver for Baugo Community School in West Elkhart, Ind., is trying to publish a book that gives school districts tools to help teach kindergarten through third-grade students proper school bus etiquette through positive reinforcement.

“Kids can be rowdy, they can act up, they’re in a very small space,” parent Stephanie Claar, who has seen the program, told WSBT. “Even just saying something can rile something up. It can make it hard for a bus driver, who is supposed to be paying attention to the road, also take care of the problems.”

Warr’s goal is to find local businesses to sponsor her book, “Kids On Board.” She also told WSBT that she presented the idea to several school districts in the area. Baugo Public Schools had yet to endorse the program.
