On Monday, NASDPTS Conference attendees heard updates from the Transportation Security Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration while both NASDPTS and NAPT attendees attended an evening reception hosted by STN that also honored Georgia’s Rick Grisham.
NTSB Board Member Christopher Hart shared more information from recent school bus crash investigations and what subsequent recommendations were. Jeremy Gunderson, a research specialist for NHTSA, provided updates on projects currently in research and planning stages.
Meanwhile, TSA Transportation Security Specialist Jimmy Beasley updated NASDPTS on training and security offerings available to student transporters. He also discussed the agency’s concern with vehicle rammings, especially after the Oct. 31 incident in New York City, as well as with cyber attacks on increasingly connected vehicles.
STN hosted a NASDPTS event Monday evening at Barley’s Brewing Company across the street from the Greater Columbus Convention Center, where the magazine honored Grisham, NAPT’s new Region 2 director and the executive director of transportation for Cobb County School District near Atlanta, with the annual STN Leadership Award.
