Q’STRAINT and Sure-Lok announced their ongoing commitment to the Peter J. Grandolfo Memorial Award of Excellence, to be presented by School Transportation News at the STN EXPO Reno on July 28.
About the Award
This distinguished award, now entering its 12th year, recognizes a school transportation professional who exhibits the highest level of service for the nation’s schoolchildren, some who require special needs attention.
The award is on behalf of the late and highly esteemed Chicago Public Schools transportation director and NAPT board member, Peter J. Grandolfo. He was not only entirely dedicated to this worthy cause, but also an advocate of the special needs transportation community, in all areas. He gave his undivided attention to the students it serves and foresight in developing a visionary training program
Still Time to Nominate
There is still time to nominate a school transportation official. The deadline to be considered for the 2019 STN EXPO Reno is this coming June 2.
What will the Winner Receive?
This year, Q’STRAINT/Sure-Lok is pleased to announce that it will provide free enrollment for the winning contestant to the National Training Seminar (NTS) for School Bus Training. The two-day seminar will take place on October 10-11, 2019, at the Q’STRAINT headquarters in sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
What is the National Training Seminar?
The seminar provides all-inclusive training on all aspects of wheelchair transportation securement. The training includes: regulations and best practices, understanding and reducing liability, securement equipment options and principles, specification writing, and securing difficult mobility devices.
The Q’STRAINT/Sure-Lok emphasis is on educating attendees to employ the knowledge they receive, to problem-solve real-world securement and transportation issues that they are confronted with on a daily basis.
The National Training Seminar is Popular with Attendees
Pupil transportation officials from across the nation are embracing the Q’STRAINT/Sure-Lok National Training Seminar.
“I attended Q’STRAINT’S National Training Securement Seminar, and from the first time I arrived to the time I left, I can say one thing: Q’STRAINT is first class all the way,” said Susan Miller, an NTS graduate.
Last Year’s Winner
Sue Shutrump, the supervisor of occupational and physical therapy for Trumbull County Educational Service Center in Warren, Ohio, was the recipient of last year’s award.
“I feel privileged to have worked with [Q’STRAINT/Sure-Lok] over my many years in this industry,” she explained. “Their commitment to the safety of students using wheelchairs is reflected not only in their work on standards development, but also in their continued emphasis on the education of transporters. I’ve learned so much from them.”
