Dan Sperry will present the opening STN EXPO general session on Sunday, July 24, to tell the story of his stepdaughter, Makayla Strahle, whose death was the result of a motorist who illegally passed her school bus.
Makayla’s legacy following the 2011 incident has been the passage of Wyoming legislation that requires all current school buses on the road to be retrofitted with stop-arm surveillance cameras and all newly purchased school buses to be equipped with the technology.
What Sperry’s shares on July 24 is sure to be both heart-wrenching and thought-provoking, as the deputy sheriff and school resource officer will ask questions related to how student transporters can make school bus stops safer and reduce the number of students injured or killed by illegally passing motorists.
Read more about Strahle and the general session online as well as in the July issue of School Transportation News magazine.
Register now through June 24 to save $100 on the standard conference rate and to take advantage of this session and more than 50 others this summer in Reno, Nevada.
