DONALDSON’S LNF & LXF Muffler Systems Receive CARB Level 3 Verification for On-Road Vehicles

MINNEAPOLIS – Donaldson Company (NYSE:DCI), a leading, worldwide manufacturer of filtration systems and parts, announced today that the company received Level 3 Plus verification by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) on October 26, 2009 for two new on-road emissions retrofit devices.

The new approvals:

  • Extend the LNF Muffler System Verification for Select High NOx Engines

CARB extended the previously verified Donaldson Low NO2 Filter (LNF) Muffler System to cover additional high NOx 1993 through 2006 model year diesel engines. The extension added engine families between 100 and 150 hp and high NOx 2002-2006 engines used in on-road applications.

  • Verify the New LXF Muffler System for Select Low NOx Engines

CARB verified the Donaldson Low NOx Filter (LXF) Muffler System for select 2002 through 2006 model year diesel engines used in on-road applications. The verification covers select low NOx engine families that did not come from the OEM with an oxidation catalyst.

“We are pleased to have received the CARB verification and verification extension of both our LNF and LXF Muffler Systems,” said Fred Schmidt, Director of Donaldson Retrofit Emissions. “We are pursuing a final verification extension for the LXF Muffler System to cover low NOx engines with OEM oxidation catalysts and hope to obtain that approval in the next couple of months. Once verified, these products will provide broad engine coverage for vehicles subject to the upcoming regulatory deadlines of the California Diesel Risk Reduction Program. They are also outstanding Level 3 Plus technologies for the increased DERA (Diesel Emission Reduction Act) funding and the stimulus funds included in the American Recovery and Repatriation Act signed into law by the Obama administration.”

The LNF and LXF Muffler Systems offer vehicle and fleet owners a best-in-class DPF (diesel particulate filter) solution for vehicles with sufficient duty cycles to permit a passive DPF. “These technologies will offer the lowest regeneration temperatures, expanding the range for passive DPF application. In addition, they are the only truly passive systems available for this complete range of engines, resulting in less complexity and lower installation costs,” says Schmidt.

Specific engine families and conditions for which the LNF and LXF Muffler Systems have been approved can be found in the Executive Order on the CARB webpage at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/diesel/verdev/verdev.htm.
