Donaldson’s SEF and LNF Muffler Systems Receive CARB Level 3 Verification for On-Road Vehicles

MINNEAPOLIS – Donaldson Company, a leading, worldwide manufacturer of filtration systems and parts, announced today that the company received Level 3 plus verification by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for two new on-road emissions retrofit devices.

  • The SEF Muffler System
On April 9, 2009, Donaldson was notified that CARB verified the Donaldson Semi-Active Electric Filter (SEF) Muffler System for select 1991 through 2006 model year diesel engines used in on-road applications.
  • The LNF Muffler System
On April 28, 2009, Donaldson was notified that CARB verified the Donaldson Low NO 2 Filter (LNF) Muffler System for select 1993 through 2003 model year diesel engines used in on-road applications.

“We are pleased to have received the CARB verification of both of our SEF and LNF Muffler Systems,” said Fred Schmidt, Donaldson Co., Director of Retrofit Emissions. “Together, these products provide broad engine coverage for vehicles subject to the upcoming regulatory deadlines of the California Diesel Risk Reduction Program. They are also outstanding technologies for the upcoming surge of retrofitting that will result from the increased DERA funding and the stimulus funds included in the American Recovery and Repatriation Act signed into law by the Obama administration.”

The LNF Muffler offers vehicle and fleet owners the most cost effective DPF solution for vehicles with sufficient duty cycles to permit a passive DPF solution. The SEF Muffler System offers fleets an active solution for vehicles that don’t have sufficient duty cycles for passive regeneration. The SEF Muffler System is especially designed for fleet vehicles that return home every night and can “plug-in” their equipment for DPF regeneration. “We believe that these technologies will outperform competing systems, showcasing Donaldson’s superior engineering which vehicle and equipment OEMs value,” says Schmidt.

Specific engine families and conditions for which the SEF and LNF Muffler Systems have been approved are in the Executive Order on the CARB webpage at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/diesel/verdev/verdev.htm .
