Double Coin Holdings, Ltd., has received SmartWay verification of its FD405 as a low-rolling resistance drive position tire. This is the second Double Coin branded tire to be added to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay list of verified technologies since March.
The FD405 drive position is part of Double Coin’s fuel-efficient tire lineup, which consists of a series of tires including the FT105, verified by SmartWay in March, as well as the FR605.
Each tire is made of advanced tread compounds and internal construction to provide lower rolling resistance and longer mileage. This helps each tire run cooler and reduce fuel consumption, which can lead to less cost for a fleet while also benefiting the environment. In addition to providing fuel economy benefits, the FD405 drive position tire has a deep 26’’/32’’ tread with stone drilling protectors to promote long original mileage.
Aaron Murphy, Vice President of CMA, says this latest verification from SmartWay is more proof that Double Coin is dedicated to providing bottom-line benefits for its customers. “Our customers demand products that help reduce their overall cost of doing business,” says Murphy. “We are committed to continuing to offer products like the FD405 and FT105 that do just that.”
Based upon data provided by tire manufacturers and EPA testing and research, the EPA has determined that using low rolling resistance tires on the steer, drive and trailer axle positions can provide a reduction in NOx emissions and an estimated fuel savings of 3% or greater relative to the “best selling” new tires.
In the near future, Double Coin expects to add additional products to the EPA’s Smartway list of verified technologies, beginning with the ultra-premium steer tire FR605. Other products will be slated for Smartway verification based on market demand and end-user requirements.
