ePortation Announces Attendance Systems for Schools and Student Transportation, Powered by Fujitsu

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif. — MyKidSecure™ by ePortation is the first truly mobile, real-time biometric identification system that monitors student attendance and activity throughout a school. It eliminates unsecure sign in/out sheets, and goes beyond key fobs, cards or pin numbers that get lost, stolen and forgotten.

MyKidSecure instantly allows school administrators and staff to identify absence or tardiness while maintaining a real-time log of all students at school.

“The information collected by MyKidSecure has uses far beyond simple time of arrival and/or departure,” says Paul Labow, president and CEO, ePortation. “For example, if there is an emergency requiring school evacuation, the mobile MyKidSecure units can be used to rapidly muster children and staff, providing first responders with real-time information about who has been evacuated and, more importantly, who has not.”

Using PalmSecure® palm vein biometric technology developed by Fujitsu, MyKidSecure authenticates identity in less than two seconds. Fast, accurate and convenient, the PalmSecure sensor uses a near infrared light (similar to your TV remote) to read the pattern of veins of your palm. This pattern is unique and is not shared by any other person, even an identical twin.

Integrated into MyKidSecure is a school bus student transportation module that provides schools and bus operators with real-time activity of students boarding and disembarking from school buses. When the child boards the bus, the driver sees the activity as the child is “added to inventory.” The parent or guardian can receive a text message that their child is safely on board and school administrators can access data about the activity. If an event arises on the bus (breakdown, flat tire, etc.), the driver can send a “mayday” alert which instantly advises the school administrators of the problem and geo-locates the bus in real-time for rapid response.

“We’re delighted that ePortation has selected Fujitsu’s PalmSecure technology as the key enabler for MyKidSecure,” says Randy Fox, senior director, currency handling and identity product solutions, Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. “Given recent events, it’s more important than ever that school administrators, staff and parents are able to know the location of their children throughout the school day.”

Fujitsu’s family of biometric solutions, PalmSecure® technology, PalmSecure for SSO (single sign-on) and the PalmEntry™ physical access control system all utilize the award-winning technology. The palm vein device can only recognize the pattern if the blood is actively flowing within the individual’s veins, which means that forgery is virtually impossible. This advanced, vascular pattern recognition technology not only provides highly reliable authentication with low false accept and reject rates, but also generates fast and easy enrollment.
