Final Issues of ‘Legal Routes’ Available for $57

“A New Look for Your Training,” the first of three final issues of Legal Routes offered by Peggy Burns as she embarks on retirement, is a valuable asset for transporters looking to retool driver training. As is customary with Burns’ products the report is chock full of stories and examples, and insights into operations, laws and realities that include financial constraints.

As she writes at the beginning of this special report: “While compliance with minimum requirements may be a top priority, it’s essential that you answer this question correctly: “Is aligning training with the particular needs of your students completely impractical, just a good idea, or absolutely necessary?”

In this May special issue of Legal Routes Burns sheds light on topics that include training drivers about foreseeability; fighting for and respecting confidential student information; training staff about compliance with special education laws (pick up, drop off, scheduling, behavior); failure to train claims in both federal and state courts; and recommendations for going beyond “basic training” to include critical training for attendants and dispatchers.  And, yes, there’s even advice on training (“helping”) school administrators and IEP team members “understand the close connection that must exist between school and transportation.”  You’ll want to bookmark this comprehensive report and use it for reference again and again.

Normally a copyrighted publication, the trio of final issues of Legal Routes (May, July and September) waives copyright, and recipients of the reports are encouraged to share the information liberally within their organizations.  Publisher Roseann Schwaderer says that “Peggy and I think these issues are valuable tools for managers and an excellent way to bring knowledge about transportation’s operational and legal challenges to the attention of school administrators and IEP team members.” The July issue will cover Employment Practices; September will cover Student Management.

You can order all three reports for $57 at www.legalroutes.com or by emailing myroadmap@legalroutes.com.  Call Roseann at 703 288-4088 for details or an order form.
