CINCINNATI — First Student, North America’s leader in student transportation, today announced the acquisition of Star Shuttle Company, a leading provider of school and charter transportation services in East Orange, N.J.
First Student began operating the company’s approximately 70 buses under the Star Shuttle name on Oct. 30. Star Shuttle transportation contracts have been transferred to First Student, and all 140 employees who passed stringent background checks were offered employment with the company.
“Since 1996, Star Shuttle has provided safe and efficient transportation for students, as well as the community through its charter services. We are proud to be affiliated with an organization that echoes First Student’s commitment to each child’s safety and security,” said Mike Ruth, First Student vice president of strategic development. “Working with Star Shuttle leadership – including Manager Dee Williams – during this transition has been a pleasure, and we look forward to continuing to provide excellent service to Star Shuttle’s customers.”
“We spoke with several companies during the process but in the end we just felt most comfortable moving forward with First Student”, said Star Shuttle Owner Nick Olivieri. “Their excellent industry reputation gave comfort to the employees and customers which allowed for as smooth transition as possible.”
As part of the transition the experienced drivers will participate in 25 hours of First Student classroom and behind-the-wheel training, which includes education on such topics as student behavioral management and bus safety.
