Blue Bird Recall Targets Air Brakes in Certain Vision, All American School Buses

Blue Bird Corporation announced it is recalling more nearly 700 school buses with air brake lines that were installed incorrectly.

Two separate NHTSA recall campaigns were filed, one that affects 31 model-year 2010 through 2013 Vision conventional and All American transit-style school buses manufactured from May 30, 2009 through April 4 of this year and another that affects 651 units of the same model years and manufacturing dates. Both recalls say the primary and secondary brake lines in those buses may have been crossed at the treadle valve.

Blue Bird explained that this incorrect installation fails to comply with FMVSS 121. As a result, school bus drivers may experience a reduction in or complete loss of brake action.

The manufacturer is notifying owners and dealers of the repairs, which will be made free of charge.
