The new SSTe conventional and Type A electric school bus from Trans Tech Bus is now approved for service in the Golden State as it passed the California Highway Patrol certification process.
The CHP’s Motor Carrier Safety Unit is responsible for conducting inspections of and providing certifications for school buses in the state. The SSTe’s certification means that the bus complied with the applicable provisions of state law relating to construction, design, equipment and color.
The first SSTe is scheduled to go to Kings Canyon Unified School District in Reedley, Calif., sometime in the near future, said Trans Tech National Sales Manager Brian Barrington, who noted that full production for the SSTe is expected to begin later this year.
The all-electric SSTe was on display for the first time in October at the NAPT Annual Summit trade show in Grand Rapids, Mich. Trans Tech partnered with Foster City, Calif.-based Motiv Power Systems to produce the SSTe.
“We are extremely excited to know that the SSTe passed inspection in California. This validates the work and effort that Trans Tech and Motiv Power Systems put into the SSTe,” he added.
