Collins Bus Corporation Recall to Address Emergency Window Egress

Collins Bus Corporation is recalling 196 of its Collins, Corbeil and Mid Bus models because the side windows do not comply with FMVSS 217 on “Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release.”

Four different models, the DE, DH, SH and SL, of the different bus makes are affected. Manufacturing dates are March 15 through July 2 of this year.

Collins Bus said the vehicles are equipped with Spectal split sash emergency egress windows that may have an improperly installed retainer bar, insufficient strength of the egress window latch connecting rod and/or missing or failed window fasteners. If all the fasteners on a single retaining bar failed, the window would not remain secured to the bus, creating a risk of injury for passengers or persons outside of the bus, Collins added in the NHTSA recall notice.

Collins dealers will perform the repairs free of charge.
