Collins Bus Recall to Address Defective Wheelchair Lifts

Collins Bus announced that 238 Type A school buses equipped with Braun wheelchair lifts are being recalled, part of a larger nationwide campaign.

Earlier this year, several other school bus manufacturers have recalled models equipped with the same Braun Century-2 wheelchair lifts. Over time and after frequent use, the roll stop latches on the outer barrier may become bent or misaligned. As a result, wheelchair occupants may be able to override the roll stop and could fall from the lift.

This NHTSA recall affects model-year 2008 and 2010 Collins Grand Bantam and Super Bantam models and Mid Bus Grand Guide and Super Grand Guide models. The school buses were manufactured from Feb. 21, 2008 through Sept. 21, 2010.

Collins said it is notifying customers this month of the repairs, which will be made free of charge by authorized Braun dealers.
