EPA Announces July Biodiesel Production Figures Reports Year-to-Date Volume of 768 Million Gallons

The EPA reported 132 million gallons of biodiesel production for the month of July and year-to-date volume of more than 768 million gallons.

Biodiesel is the first EPA-designated Advanced Biofuel to reach 1 billion gallons of annual production, said the National Biodiesel Board (NBB). The industry has surpassed RFS targets for two consecutive years and is on pace to do so again this year.

The production volumes are reported under the Biomass-based Diesel category under the RFS. The latest numbers show a total of more than 166 million gallons of Biomass-based Diesel in July, but that total also includes production of renewable diesel. The biodiesel portion of the total was 132 million gallons.

Made from an increasingly diverse mix of resources such as recycled cooking oil, soybean oil and animal fats, NBB said biodiesel is the first and only EPA-designated Advanced Biofuel with commercial-scale production nationwide. It is produced in nearly every state in the country and supports some 50,000 jobs. 

According to an ongoing STN survey of readers, biodiesel is tied with propane as the most frequently used alternative fuel in fleets nationwide. Final survey results will be reported in the October edition of the magazine.
