More than 150 IC Bus School Buses to be Recalled Due to Joint Body Strength Issues

Navistar announced that subsidiary IC Bus is recalling 158 CE Series conventional school buses to fix interior lower linings that fail to meet FMVSS 221.

The company said the buses are all 2011 and 2012 model years manufactured during the three-day period of Sept. 7 through Sept. 9, 2010. Navistar said that the non-compliance with the federal “School Bus Joint Body Strength” standard could increase the risk of injury to occupants in the case of a crash.

Navistar is notifying customers that authorized dealers will inspect the affected buses and retighten join screws to the proper specification. The NHTSA recall campaign is expected to begin by Aug. 20.
