Multi-Function School Activity Buses Recalled to Fix Seat Cusion Self-Latching Mechanism

Manufacturer StarTrans Bus Corporation announced it is recalling an undetermined number of model-year 2011 and 2012 MFSABs.

The buses manufactured between April 14, 2010 and June 7, 2011 are equipped with C.E. White self-latching seat cushions used to retain the seat cushion to the frame, per FMVSS 222 on school bus passenger seating and crash protection. StarTrans said the self-latching mechanism in these MFSABs may not activate, which could put the seats out of compliance with the federal regulation.

In the event of a crash, the seat cushion could flip up and could interfere with emergency evacuations of students.

The NHTSA recall is expected to begin this month or shortly after the new year. StarTrans said it is notifying bus owners and that dealers will perform the seat cushion repairs free of charge.
