The National School Transportation Association is encouraging its members to participate in its Spring Meetings and Capitol Hill Bus-In event to ensure their voices are heard in Washington during this election year.
NSTA said participation at the event, which will be held April 24 to 26 and is free to group members, is “crucial” to bolster its federal legislative efforts and to help legislators to understand and address key issues facing the student transportation industry. The Bus-In was formerly known as the “Fly-In,” but NSTA changed the name to more accurately reflect the school bus industry and to be more inclusionary to the American School Bus Council, of which NSTA is a board member.
NSTA’s host hotel is the Westin Washington D.C. City Center, which has made a limited number of rooms available to its members. Please contact Jennifer Hickey Bruce for information and reservations.
The association also announced the opening of its 2012 Awards Program. NSTA recognizes school bus contractors, operators and drivers who have made substantial contributions to the industry and to those it serves. During its Annual Meeting and Convention each summer, NSTA gives out eight different awards to celebrate these achievements.
One of the awards is the Thomas Built Buses Continuing Education and Professional Growth Grant, created in 1994 to further the professional and business education of young professionals working in contracted pupil transportation. Last year’s grant winner, Kimberly Isley of Warrensville, Ill., committed her education to pursuing a career in human resources and training, and to grow in her current role with National Express Corp.
All nominations must be received at the NSTA office by Friday, May 11. In addition, winners must be present at the NSTA Annual Meeting and Convention to receive an award.
