School Bus Contractor Cook-Illinois Taps Industry Experts for Advisory Team

Cook-Illinois Corporation, one of the largest school bus contractors in the nation, has formed a national advisory team that consists of four recognized experts to help the company improve transportation services.

Joining the advisory team are Peggy Burns, former in-house council at Adams 12 Five Star Schools in Thornton, Colo., and currently owner of Education Compliance Group and editor of “Legal Routes.” Burns is joined by Pauline Gervais, the retired executive director of transportation at Denver Public Schools and a consultant for Education Compliance Group, and Sue Shutrump, the supervisor of occupational and physical therapy services and Trumbull County (Ohio) ESC.

“The companies of Cook-Illinois strive for continual improvement of service, and that starts from within,” said John Benish, Jr., company COO. “Peggy, Pauline and Sue bring an objective perspective grounded in safety, operations, service and compliance. Their combined experience in the pupil transportation industry and the transportation of students with special needs adds depth and breadth of knowledge to the service our companies provide.”

The family-owned Cook-Illinois Corporation operates 19 subsidiary bus companies and more than 2,200 school buses in the greater Chicago area. It is the largest family owned and operated school bus contractor in the United States and the sixth largest among all school bus companies nationwide. For the past two years, Cook-Illinois has also partnered with UK transport operator Go-Ahead Group to operate school bus contractor Go-Ahead North America.
