Robie Hartling of Stock Transportation’s Ottawa location won the third annual National Express Corporation School Bus Safety Poster Contest for his depiction of how crossover mirrors increase student safety at school bus stops.
A professional artist as well as a school bus driver, Hartling’s poster advises his peers that they should check the mirrors at every stop and shows how the crossover mirrors can increase the driver’s vision in front and down the length of the bus. As the grand prize winner, Hartling won $1,000.
“Not only am I impressed with Robie’s artwork, but more so his commitment to safety,” said Greg Stock, regional manager of Stock Transportation, which services Hartling’s district, Comstock West Ottawa Public Schools.
Some 150 employees from subsidiaries Durham School Services, Petermann and Stock participated in the contest across Canada and the U.S. Posters were submitted in October to coincide with National School Bus Safety Month and were judged at NEC headquarters near Chicago.
