School Transportation News magazine received word from the Western Publishing Association (WPA) that it is a MAGGIE Award finalist in the categories of Special Interest/Trade and Best News Story/Trade.
Winners will be announced at a banquet near the Los Angeles International Airport on May 1.
WPA is a non-profit business association based in Westlake Village, Calif., is dedicated to the advancement of the media publishing industry in the western United States. Founded in 1951, its primary mission is to provide continuing education to the media publishing industry through seminars, conferences, roundtables and partnerships with other groups and associations to offer online audio and videoconferences.
Judges recognized the October 2014 edition that focused on wintertime preparations made by school bus operators nationwide as well as bus evacuations and a preview of the NAPT Summit in Kansas City.
The nominated Best News Story is “To Mandate or Not,” written by contributor Eric Woolson and published in the May 2014 edition. Woolson looked at how many states and districts mandate crossing control arms, but as of yet NHTSA has not required them on the federal level.
STN was also a finalist in the Special Interest/Trade category last year.
