Third-Generation Corr Named President of NY Contractor

Sean Corr, the son of the former National School Transportation Association president and grandson of the founder of the family business, The Trans Group, is the new president of Educational Bus.

The division of The Trans Group provides contracted student transportation service to more than a half-dozen school districts in the neighboring Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island. Tim Flood, also a former NSTA president and executive vice president of The Trans Group, made the younger Corr’s promotion official on Thursday in a statement.

“Sean Corr grew up around school buses, working on vehicles in our shops, similar to how his father started,” said Flood. “He brings that familiarity, expertise and passion to his role as president.”

John Corr Sr. founded the company that would become known as The Trans Group in 1952 by operating vans to transport students to and from summer camps. Five years later, as profiled in this month’s edition of School Transportation News magazine, the Westbury School District awarded the company its first school bus contract. By the early 1960s, The Trans Group formed Educational Bus as its first subsidiary.

Today, The Trans Group employs more than 1,700 people and operates more than 1,200 school and public transit buses.

“Having a third-generation member of the Corr family at the helm of Educational Bus will help lead us into an even safer, more efficient and environmentally supportive era of school transportation,” Flood added.

Corr is a past recipient of the Thomas Built Buses Continuing Education Award, an annual grant presented to an employee of a contractor company belonging to the NSTA for educational programs. His father, John Corr Jr., was the first to receive the NSTA Distinguished Service Award more than once, both for his efforts as president of the New York School Bus Contractor’s Association and relief efforts he spearheaded using company resources following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
