Thomas Built Buses Recall to Fix Short Circuit Affects Thousands of Saf-T-Liner C2s

Daimler Trucks North America announced that it is recalling 4,700 model year 2011 through 2013 Thomas Built Buses to fix a grid heater ground wire that may short circuit and cause a vehicle fire.

The Saf-T-Liner C2s built on Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation B2 chassis were manufactured from Nov. 15, 2010 through Oct. 6 of this year. Thomas explained that the grid heater ground wire may rub and chafe after coming into contact with the relay power terminal. This could cause an electrical fault or short circuit.

Daimler said the NHTSA recall is set to begin on or around Feb. 1, 2012. The company will notify owners that dealers will inspect the grid heater relay ground wire to ensure it is correctly routed and will modify it as necessary to ensure adequate clearance from power terminal
