Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 Recall to Fix Faulty Side-Marker Lights

Thomas Built Buses parent company Daimler Trucks North America announced that 2,800 Saf-T-Liner C2 school buses are being recalled to update bulk-head module software that governs the side-marker/directional lights.

The NHTSA recall affects model year 2012 Saf-T-Liner C2s manufactured from Feb. 24 through Aug. 3 of this year. The buses are equipped with bulk-head module software release 2.1 and reference parameter release P38407-06. Daimler added that inaccurate fault detection values in the software make cause the lights to stop function after 5 to 13 minutes of vehicle operation. This could result in decreased visibility of the bus and its intended direction of travel to other motorists.

Daimler is expected to notify owners by the beginning of February 2012 that authorized dealers will updated the software free of charge.
