NAPT President Robinson Named Executive Transportation Director for NYC Dept. of Education

Last week, Alexandra Robinson, who began her two-year term as president of the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) at the organization’s annual Summit in October, has been named the new executive director of transportation for the New York City Department of Education.

For the past decade, she has served as the director of transportation services for the San Diego Unified School District in southern California and most recently has been a consultant to school districts across the nation. She has also served on several local and national transportation committees and advisory boards.

With 25 years of education experience, Robinson has worked as a behavioral and crisis intervention specialist, transportation director and consultant for school districts in states such as Oregon, Washington, Texas, Florida and Ohio.

Originally from New York City, Robinson began her work with students with disabilities in Connecticut as a counselor and teacher. At Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, Fla., she served as a crisis intervention specialist for transportation before becoming transportation manager. In 1993 she joined the Florida Department of Education School Transportation Management Section as the supervisor of exceptional student transportation.

For 19 years, Robinson has presented to student transportation professionals and special educators on mobility and securement, safety and transporting students with medical and/or other special needs. Previously, she served as the Region V director for NAPT and chaired its Special Needs Committee. She is also a past-president of the California Association of School Transportation Officials and is an NHTSA-certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.
